The drive to Syabrubesi on the western edge of Langtang National Park takes you north out of Kathmandu along a bumpy and vertiginous road to the start point of Langtang trekking. The normal travel duration via jeep is 7 to 8 hours via jeep and 9 to 10 hours via bus in a distance of 122 Kms. approx.

After breakfast in Syabrubesi, it’s time to take your first real steps on the Langtang Valley Trek. You’ll get started by crossing a suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi river, which flows across the border from Tibet. The trail heads uphill from here, climbing through a dense woodland of pine and rhododendron as it parallels the Langtang Khola river gorge. This is a landscape of sparkling waterfalls and hidden hot springs, where rhesus macaques and red pandas move through the forest canopy while you pass beneath them. Keep on the lookout for the wild, oversized beehives perched high on the nearby cliffs; locals expend great effort to harvest the honey from these hives, often at considerable personal risk. As you come across terraced farms and quiet streams, you’ll approach several small villages. Most notable amongst them are Bamboo and Renche. You’ll stop for lunch at one of these peaceful mountain communities, where you’ll enjoy the opportunity to refuel your body and rest your feet. In the afternoon, you’ll ascend past Bamboo to reach the charming village of Lama Hotel.

The day starts with a gentle climb but it soon becomes steeper; climbing through forests of hemlock, oak, maple and white or pink rhododendrons high above the Langtang Khola. The tantalizing glimpses of snow-capped peaks begin to appear (along with a fleeting view of Mt. Langtang Lirung, 7244m.). This trail leads to a log bridge and further on you come across lush meadows of Ghoda Tabela (2992m).The trail ascends gradually as the valley opens up into classical U-shaped glacial. You will follow the trail across the helipad and yak pastures, climb briefly through rhododendrons to reach several Tamang villages. The trail crosses a stream that powers several water driven mills and prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang 3430m (headquarters of Langtang National Park). The village has flat roof Tibetan style houses and elaborately carved wood windows (the upper village is worth exploring). The valley is surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields where buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley are grown. It’s easy to find a yak and wild goats wondering around you.

You will cherish the alpine scenery for the next two days. You’ll want to start early in order to make the most of them. Departing Langtang village, you’ll ascend along steep paths and come across a handful of tiny settlements used by yak herders. This is a reliable sign that you’re trekking at a genuinely high altitude; yaks are rarely found below 3,500 meters in elevation. After getting a good look at the shaggy creatures, you’ll continue alongside the course of the Langtang Khola. As you draw closer to the community of Kyanjing Gompa, you’ll come across an extraordinary example of a Buddhist mani wall. These walls are constructed with stones of varying shapes and sizes, and each is carved with important religious mantras. When you arrive in the village, you’ll get checked in at one of the local teahouses and drop off our bags to explore the surroundings at our leisure. Today’s relatively short hike allows us to adjust to the higher elevation while taking the time to enjoy awe-inspiring mountain panoramas from the comfort of a café terrace or bakery window.

Today in the morning, your guide takes you to a day hike to Cherkuri Ri (4984m) which provides you a perfect outlook for the valley and you can enjoy the close up view of the breathtaking mountain view, walking for about 5 – 6 hours and return back to Kyanjing Village for the night.

From Lama Hotel/Rimche, we hike down via Bamboo to Pahiro Thapla. Then there is a 1.5hour steep, painful and exhausting climb up a sharp incline. A little tea shop at the top is a welcome sight – providing soft drinks, tea and snacks to help to recover your energy. This vantage point offers an excellent view of Ganesh Himal, Langtang and other nearby mountains. The last hours’ climb to Thulo Syapru is much gentler.

Syabru Gaon is a beautiful village situated in the Himalayan region. On the way to Syabru Gaon, you get to see the splendid view of the great Himalayas. The people in this village with ancient Tibetan Buddhist practice stands proudly as an example for surviving natural disasters like earthquakes. People here follow bhotia culture depending on cattle farming in mountain life.

Start your trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel and then you reach Kyangjing Gompa where you can visit the monastery, cheese factory and Sherpa village. Langtang valley is the most beautiful valley in the world. Langtang-Gosainkunda trek becomes a beautiful walk through Rhododendron and pine trees where you can encounter honey hunter animals, langur monkeys and waterfalls. At Lauri Binayak, you will have a fantastic view of the Langtang region.

You will be heading to the holy Gosainkunda Lake where people come to worship and bath in August during the full moon festival. The lake holds great value in Hindu Culture as it is believed that Lord Shiva pierced the glacier to extinguish his thirst after consuming the poison. You begin our trekking following the trail on the ridge till you see the first lake at an elevation of 4,100 meters. After leaving the ridge and walking high above the Trishuli valley the second lake, Bhairav Kunda comes in your sight. Continuing gradual climb, you finally reach the third and largest of the three, Gosainkunda.

Surya Peak (5145m) has religious significance, which takes about 8 to 9 hours, that sits just above Gosainkunda Lake. The peak is most often climbed as part of a visit to these high sacred lakes, where Lord Shiva is said to have thrust his trident into the ground creating the small alpine chain of lakes. It makes an excellent addition to those trekking in the Langtang and Gosainkunda region or a good acclimatization summit for larger Himalayan Peaks. Later you return to Gosainkunda for the night.

During this trek, you will get through pine and rhododendron forests. Passing Schools and gompas the trail climbs steeply to Dursagang then continues through forest of hemlock and oak to the top of ridge at Foprang Danda. The poorly cared for Singh Gompa is the main attraction of Chandan Bari and houses a statue of Green Tara. The caretaker will unlock the chapel for a small fee. Singh Gompa is a small village in Langtang valley from where you get a chance to see the majestic views of the mountains like Himal chuli, Ganesh Himal range, different Tibetan peaks and Manaslu range.

Today is the last day of the trekking, you trek to Thulo Bharkhu through the pine and chest not forest after breakfast. It takes 3 hours to get into the Thulo Bharkhu, have lunch at the Bharkhu village. After lunch, you will continue throughout the road to Dhunche. Dhunche is the main district headquarter of the Rasuwa district.

The drive from Dhunche to Kathmandu lets you have a spectacular drive experience through the zig-zag mountain road that includes jerk and tar. Relatively a bit longer than driving to Syabru Besi because afternoon and evening Kathmandu entrance always has more traffic than morning. It will be an excellent drive with viewing numerous mountains, diverse landscapes, and cultural glimpse. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you are transferred to your hotel.
